AbitibiBowater has just announced its intent to suspend production at the following plants:
- Beaupre, Quebec's digital printing paper plant - will completely shut down - 340 jobs lost
- Clermont, Quebec - one of two newsprint plants will close - 120 will be layed off
- Fort Frances, Ontario - commercial printing plant will close - 75 jobs lost
- Brooklyn, Nova Scotia - production at newsprint mill will be cut in half - 300 workers will move to reduced hours
- Coosa Pines, Alabama - production will be interrupted - 85 people will be layed off
All cuts will begin on October 31st. The cuts reflect the insolvent newsprint giant's restructuring efforts under the bankruptcy protection laws in Canada and the United States.
