AbitibiBowater upgrades LaTuque sawmill

AbitibiBowater is investing $1.8 million into its La Tuque sawmill in Quebec to enhance the mill's production.

La Tuque is roughly 240 kilometres north of Quebec City.

AbitibiBowater said employee wage concessions and lower fibre costs allowed them to upgrade this mill, and the reason they were able to recall 120 workers last month.

This weekend the machinery at the La Tuque mill will be dismantled in preparation for the upgrade. Production is expected to resume by the second week in September.

The upgrade is expected to enhance production on the line by 10%, as well as allowing the line to handle smaller pieces of wood.

The mill, which includes several production lines, has a total annual capacity of 160 million board feet.
