British Columbia creates new Ministry of Forests, Mines and Lands

British Columbia has merged departments to create the new Ministry of Forests, Mines and Lands. This shuffle will see the Minister of Forests and Range, Pat Bell, lead the new department, with Dana Hayden as the Deputy Minister.



Referred to as the new "super ministry", there is speculation that this shuffle will allow Minister Pat Ball promote mining as well as forestry during his trade missions to China.



Ministry of Forests, Mines and Lands - General Responsibilities



  • Forest stewardship policy

  • Timber supply, inventory and tree improvement

  • Pest and disease management policy

  • Forest investment

  • BC Timber Sales

  • Tenures and pricing

  • Resource roads and bridges policy

  • Crown land administration policy

  • Mines and minerals policy

  • Geological Survey Service
