CEP meeting with Asia Pacific next week about Worthington Mackenzie mill

Fri 19 Mar 2010 07:50:43 AM EDT

Jim Britton, the Western Region Vice President of CEP, said his union is meeting with officials from Asia Pacific next week.

The two parties are interested in reaching a deal that would see the former Pope & Talbot/Worthington pulp mill resume operations in Mackenzie, British Columbia.

If a deal can be reached, 250 jobs may return to the Mackenzie.

Asia Pacific has also been meeting with the province to discuss the money that is owed to the province when they stepped in to ensure the safety and security of the mill. Taxes are also owed to the District of Mackenzie.

Also under negotiation is the chip supply to the mill from Canfor.

It is expected that Asian Pacific will export 100% of the product from the mill to its customers in the Asia-Pacific rim.
