CEP's annual convention

Fri 17 Sep 2010 10:34:47 AM EDT

The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP) will be holding their annual convention in Toronto, Ontario beginning on Sunday.

About 1,500 members are expected to attend.

President of the CEP, Dave Coles, plans to use his opening address on Sunday to point the finger squarely at Prime Minister Stephen Harper's government for failing to come to the aid of the forest sector, and for working to bring other industries - energy, telecommunications, media - under more foreign control.

The convention will be presented with a general policy document that provides the context for several resolutions on the economic crisis, including calls for increases in the minimum wage, a stronger commitment to pattern bargaining, and pension security.

The CEP will broadcast some parts of convention live on its http://www.ceplive.ca website.
