Societe generale de financement du Quebec (SGF) has purchased 4,069 hectares of woodlands from Domtar, for $8.5 million. The woodlands are located near Grande Vallee in the Gaspe Peninsula of eastern Quebec.
SGF is a Quebec government financing agency. SGF said the deal will allow the company to develop the area's woodlands assets and salmon river attractions, boosting the forestry and tourist sectors.
Pierre Shedleur, president and general manager of SGF, said "SGF will work toward preserving and developing the river's cultural character, while managing the forest area's potential and thereby maintain jobs within the region and even create new ones."
