Blue Wolf Capital Management and Atlas Holdings, co-owners of Northern Pulp Nova Scotia Corporation (“Northern Pulp”), announced today the establishment of a new holding company, Northern Resources Nova Scotia Corporation, which will own both Northern Pulp and Northern Timber.
Dr. John Hamm, former Premier of Nova Scotia and current member of Northern Pulp’s Board of Directors, has been appointed Chair of the Board of Northern Resources Nova Scotia Corporation.
“I joined the board of Northern Pulp to advance the goals of growing a sustainable economy and investing in assets and opportunities that enhance the rural economy,” says Dr. Hamm. “With the acquisition of 420,000 acres of forestland in Northern Nova Scotia earlier this year, the company gained the asset base to truly be a powerful force in our community, and partnerships with employees, neighbours, governments, First Nations, contractors, community organizations and other stakeholders.”
“Northern Resources Nova Scotia Corporation will focus on new opportunities in alternative energy and forest products investments,” says Wayne Gosse, who has been appointed President and Chief Financial Officer of Northern Resources Nova Scotia Corporation.
Effective immediately, Timothy Lowe replaces Wayne Gosse as Chief Executive Officer of Northern Pulp. Mr. Lowe was formerly Chief Operating Officer of Northern Pulp, a position he assumed in August 2009. Prior to moving to Nova Scotia last year, Mr. Lowe was General Manager of the Domtar Pulp Mill, Woodland, Maine, having worked with the company in progressively senior roles since joining the company in 1982.
Bernie Miller, Managing Partner of McInnes Cooper, is retained to work closely with Northern Resources’ management team and will take on broader legal and strategic responsibilities as Northern Resources’ primary outside General Counsel in addition to his ongoing role as Managing Partner of McInnes Cooper.
Don Breen will assume the role of Vice-President of Business Development & Environmental Affairs for the newly formed company.
