Peter Grant's unfinished mansion is for sale

Mon 12 Apr 2010 12:41:54 PM EDT

Peter Grant, of Grant Forest Products, has had to put his unfinished house in Haileybury, Ontario on the market as a court-appointed sale.

The house was going to be the personal residence for Peter Grant, and a corporate office for the family owned Grant Forest Products company.

The house and property features:

  • 40 acres

  • 65,000 square foot building - believe to be the largest home in Canada

  • on the shores of Lake Temiskaming

  • house is as big as Bill Gates' property near Seattle, as big as the White House and 24 Sussex Drive put together

  • boat house big enough for a 40 foot yacht

  • 2 elevators

  • indoor pool

  • giant hot tub

  • 30 foot fireplaces in the master bedroom and living room

  • exercise room the size of a small gym

  • plumbing on the grounds for a few golf holes

All for the price tag of $25 million, in AS IN condition.

The house is unfinished and will take an estimated $1 million to finish. It currently has no flooring, no finished bathrooms, and few wall coverings.

Grant Forest Products was once the third largest maker of OSB (oriented strand board) in North America, but the downturn in the U.S. housing market hit the OSB manufacturers hard. Grant Forest Products filed for creditor protection last June with a debt load of over $75 million.

Four of Grant Forest Products facilities have been sold to Georgia-Pacific and the rest of the company's properties are up for sale, including a golf course and a 65ft yacht.
