It was an historic day in Saskatchewan yesterday as a new company, Sakaw Askiy Management Inc., took over the Prince Albert Forest Management Agreement (FMA).
Sakaw Askiy Management Inc. has been formed by eight shareholders, including two First Nations and six forest companies.
This FMA was previously managed by Domtar / Weyerhaeuser.
Sakaw Askiy Management Inc. will not be taking on the hauling, harvesting, or silviculture operations.
Montreal Lake Cree Nation Chief Roger Bird is thankful for the job opportunities that will now exist for the people of the Montreal Lake Cree Nation.
The FMA oversees 3.3 million hectares. Wood volume allocations will vary between the 8 stakeholders.
