$14 million in silviculture funding was announced today for Nova Scotia by the provincial and federal government.
Hundreds of new jobs are expected to be created to thin, tend, and replant Nova Scotia's forests over the next two years.
The money is mainly for woodlots smaller than 2,000 hectares. Softwood lumber producers and exporters are not eligible.
The province is investing $7 million through the provincial Department of Natural Resources. $5 million of the federal funding is coming from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and $2 million from Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation.
There are 50 silviculture companies in Nova Scotia.
