Tentative labour agreement - Conifer

Tue 17 Aug 2010 06:14:20 PM EDT

A tentative labour agreement has been reached between Conifer and the United Steelworkers in northern British Columbia.

Conifer is the bargaining agent for several forestry companies including Tolko Industries, AbitibiBowater Inc., Conifex Timber Inc., and West Fraser Timber Co.

Details of the agreement are not yet public, but we do know:

  • it is a 4 year agreement

  • includes wage increases in the last 2 years

  • includes job security measures

  • includes the possibility of profit-sharing if lumber markets improve

The tentative agreement seems similar to the agreement reached between the United Steelworkers and Canfor back in February.

The previous agreement expired at the end of June, 2009.
