Mon 22 Feb 2010 07:22:29 AM EST

The United Steelworkers are calling their tentative deal with Canfor, 'unprecedented' in the history of collective bargaining in the B.C. forest industry.

Bob Matters, Chair of the United Steelworkers British Columbia Wood Council, said for the first time, wording has been included in the package on the issues of: seniority protection, severance protection, and employment security, in general.

The 11,000 members of the United Steelworkers union in British Columbia have been without a contract since June 30, 2009.

Full details of the tentative agreement will not be released until the members discuss the agreement and hold a ratification vote.
