Atlantic Packaging Products closes newsprint recycling plant in Whitby

Atlantic Packaging Products has decided to close its recycled newsprint plant in Whitby, Ontario.

The closure is being blamed on a drastic decline in demand in North America, the rising Canadian dollar, the high cost of the raw material, and the overcapacity in the newsprint manufacturing sector.

The Whitby plant was the first 100% recycled newsprint plant in Canada. 151 employees will be out of work.
