Hampton Affiliates and the Burns Lake Native Development Corporation met recently with the District Manager of Forests and Range to discuss the Lakes Timber Supply Area (LTSA).

The timber supply has impacted by the mountain pine beetle and there are concerns about the long-term quality of the wood.

“We [Hampton Affiliates] employ approximately 300 people at Babine Forest Products (BFP), forty per cent of which are First Nations. We also employ approximately 100 people at Decker Lake Forest Products,” Richard Vossen said.

“Lumber is our primary production in the Burns Lake area, it is our bread and butter.”

“We want to maintain our standard of living, keep our high paying jobs and keep our lifestyle something needs to be done,” he added.
