The Harmac pulp mill in Nanaimo, British Columbia is selling their pulp to Chinese customers - customers who have told them they are prepared to take whatever they can produce.
President of Harmac, Levi Sampson, recently took a business trip to China to visit with some of the mill's customers.
Sampson said their high-quality NBSK pulp is making a variety of non-traditional paper products, "including wallpaper, house siding and technological uses such as coating wires for computers and other electronics."
Sampson said he expects the price of pulp will reach $1,000 per tonne (almost double what it was when Harmac reopened in 2008) by the fall and likely continue to rise for some time.
Catalyst Paper has watched Harmac's Chinese sales, and because of the market strength, Catalyst Paper has decided to reopen their Crofton pulp mill.
