How did the vote go in Kapuskasing?

mer 20 jan 2010 10:43:23 EST

TembecOn Sunday the unionized workers from the Tembec mill in Kapuskasing, Ontario were called to a meeting at the request of the company.

Last week, the exact details of the request were not known, besides the fact that the unions expected to hear the request from the company, and then would be asked to vote.

The Kapuskasing newspaper, The Northern Times, is reporting that people are very tight lipped about the meeting. Unofficially, the newspaper had heard that Tembec asked for a 10% wage cut from its workers.

In order for Tembec's request to pass, every union had to vote to accept the offer. If just one union voted to reject the offer, it would die.

The Northern Times has unofficially heard that at least one union rejected the offer.

No official details have been released.
