A Quebec Superior Judge dismissed Newfoundland and Labrador's environmental claims against AbitibiBowater.
The province wanted AbitibiBowater to clean up five sites that the company owns, or had once owned. The cleanup would have cost hundreds of millions of dollars - a cost that would certainly prevent the company from emerging from creditor protection.
Quebec Superior Court Justice Clement Gascon urged both sides to find "an appropriate forum" in which to settle their differences.
