Kyahwood sawmill reopens after 2 years

mar 14 sep 2010 11:52:03 EDT

Kyahwood Forest Products reopened this week near Moricetown, British Columbia.

The Kyahwood sawmill has been idle for almost two years. The closure was blamed on poor lumber conditions.

The reopening is thanks to the Moricetown Band and a consortium of 5 lending institutions.

The mill produces finger-joint studs with blocks supplied by Canfor. The mill is now equipped with a new scanner optimizer that will replace a labour-intensive system in which workers had to examine each block individually.

35 people are employed at the mill.
