Rio Tinto Alcan, an aluminum company, is interested in AbitibiBowater's former Port Alfred paper mill site in Saguenay, Quebec.
AbitibiBowater is seeking approval of the bankruptcy court to sell the mill site to Rio Tinto Alcan for $500,000.
The mill was idled in 2001, and permanently closed in 2005. 640 workers lost their jobs. In 2008 the mill was demolished and the land was decontaminated.
Rio Tino Alcan does not have a specific plan for the land at this time, but their port facilities are located adjacent to the mill.
