Some of Thunder Bay's woodland workers laid off

Some of the woodland workers in Thunder Bay, Ontario received their indefinite lay off notice from AbitibiBowater this week, and harvesting has been halted.

There are roughly 400 woodland workers. Union officials are not expecting all of the workers to be laid off.

The deadline for labour, wood, and energy cost negotiations between the unions and the company is August 19th. The outcome of the negotiations will determine the future of the Thunder Bay mill.
