West Fraser Timber has posted a loss of $198 million in its third quarter.
A large portion of the loss is related to the closure of the Kitimat paper mill in British Columbia.
West Fraser continues to operate sawmills in Smithers, Houston, Fraser Lake, Chetwynd, Quesnel and Williams Lake in north and central B.C. It also has two pulp mills, a plywood plant and a medium density fibreboard plant in Quesnel.
“Our strong balance sheet, conservative business philosophy and long-standing emphasis on controlling costs will serve us well as we work through this difficult time in our industry’s history”, said West Fraser chairman, president and CEO Hank Ketchum.
